A link between the departments of Aveyron and Tarn, the Viaur Viaduct is above all a bold project carried out by the engineer Paul Bodin.
A real technical feat showcasing the new technologies of the time, this railway bridge, making the junction between the steep banks of the Viaur, is also of incredible beauty. The white metal structure blends beautifully with the natural scenery that surrounds it, that of the Viaur valley, deep and wild.
460 meters long, with an arch of 220 meters in balance at 116 meters above the river bed, this elegant and innovative steel construction, even surpassing the project of Gustave Eiffel.
From different points of view on the viaduct and thanks to the lights of your guide, the work of Paul Bodin will no longer have any secrets for you.

First, a railway viaduct built between 1895 and 1902 by engineer Paul Bodin. It is designed according to the technique of balanced arches like the Eiffel Tower or the viaduct of Garabit. This single-arch metal structure allowed the Carmaux/Rodez railway to cross the Viaur gorges. At 460 m long and 116 m high, it is one of the most famous works of art of the French Railways. It has made it possible to break the isolation of Segala, especially at the agricultural level.
