Église Notre-Dame de Laval
Notre-Dame de Laval, RD9, 66220 Caudiès-de-Fenouillèdes
- Pyrénées-Orientales
- Occitanie
Built in the 10th century and rebuilt in the 15th century, the parish church bordered by the cemetery until the 17th century consists of a single nave finished by a pentagonal choir and a superb portal. Its 14th-century altarpiece, made of carved stone, is a unique example of naive art and of particular devotion to the Virgin and Saint Anne. Appreciated by the inhabitants of Fenouillèdes who came there to seek protection against invasions and epidemics of plague and cholera, it was saved from a sale as Bien National after the French Revolution.
