Eglise Saint-Pierre
Place Saint-Pierre, 33480 Avensan
- Gironde
- Nouvelle-Aquitaine
Of Romanesque origin, the church was remodeled in the 19th century. The original plan was a parallelogram finished in the west by an outwardly circular apse. Two aisles were added later to the nave. The work of the 19th century was entrusted to several architects: Hosteing, Pierre Brun and Jean-Jules Mondet. The walls of the apse, vaulted in the back of the oven, have a double arcature that presents an important decoration of characters, foliage and animals on the capitals, imposts and spandrels.
