• Presentation The preceptory consists of two adjoining buildings: the church (built in the twelfth century) in the south and the castle (fortified house of the sixteenth century) in the north whose plan is part of a quadrilateral has for exterior dimensions approximately: 19.5 metres by 24.6 metres. The layout of the house in the north is mentioned several times in the preceptories of Saintonge and Aunis. Given that this architectural element has disappeared from almost all the establishments in Aquitaine, it is difficult to establish the same conclusion for our region.
Despite the damage brought by the vicissitudes of local history: the end of the Hundred Years' War, local conflicts with neighbouring seigneuries and wars of religion, Sallebruneau is a remarkable witness to the end of the Middle Ages.
