Château de Campagnac
Route du château de Campagnac, 24200 Sarlat-la-Canéda
- Dordogne
- Nouvelle-Aquitaine
A first castle, part of the advanced defences of the city of Sarlat, was built in the thirteenth century. During the following centuries, the square changed hands: English, Sarladian, various owners including the families of Roux and Abzac until the Revolution. In the early 19th century, a new owner began the transformation of the building. It is currently owned by the city. The castle consists of two main buildings welded on the south facade by a polygonal tower. A third building seems to have been added in the 19th century. The polygonal south tower has preserved its way of round on machicolations with corbels to three redans; it encloses a staircase in stone; the staircase is covered by a barrel vault rotating on the core, whose transverse doubleaux fall on prismatic consoles.
