A Gaulish rural establishment.
Upstream of a subdivision project at Isle, in the place called La Chabroulie, a preventive archaeological excavation was prescribed by the State (Regional Archaeology Service – Drac Nouvelle-Aquitaine). This operation aims at the scientific study of an occupation of the Second Iron Age and the Upper Empire. The archaeological diagnosis carried out in July 2020 revealed a structured set of pits and ditches characteristic of a Gallic rural settlement of the 2nd century BC as well as some structures resulting from an ancient occupation.
The programme includes a guided tour of the remains discovered (Gallic and ancient enclosures, fossil structures, archaeological furniture, amphora ceramics), presentations of the chronological periods, current excavation and analysis methods, as well as local and regional archaeological research.
