Keep an eye out for the fauna and flora that make Mont Saint-Michel as much a wonder as its architectural heritage. The bay is as fragile as it is amazing.

Shorelines, the changing landscape, the Couesnon dam, orchards, fauna and flora are all elements that constitute the natural heritage of Mont Saint-Michel. Finely observed, widely protected, this environment is full of fragile and wonderful resources.
As part of JEP2022 and the theme "sustainable heritage", take advantage of a range of guided tours on different themes. These walks are free and compatible in a day tour including the visit of the magnificent abbey of Mont-Saint-Michel.

About the location

The Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel is classified as a Wetland of International Importance under the Ramsar Convention (on 46,000 ha!). This classification covers the maritime part of the bay but also the polders and tidal marshes.
The bay of Mont-Saint-Michel is a bay located between Brittany (southwest) and Avranchin (at the base of the Norman peninsula of Cotentin, east) at the bottom of the Normanno-Breton Gulf. It was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979\. The very large tidal range in the region (up to 15 meters) allows a large part of this bay to be discovered at low tide. Two granitic islets are located in the bay of Mont-Saint-Michel, Tombelaine and Mont Saint-Michel in Normandy. The area is home to a wide variety of birds and marine calf seals.
