Show: The choice of souls
Exceptional representation at the foot of the cliffs on the beach of Saint Martin in Campaign A humanist fable by Stéphane Titeca Grand prix du théâtre 2015 Best Drama Comedy Hong-Kong International French Festival The choice of souls takes place in 1916, in a shell hole during the assault on Verdun. In this hole, two men that everything opposes: Raoul, hairy and rural revanchard and a bit simple, and Franz, a German soldier, musician and humanist. These two men need each other to get out of the hole. They will need to forget their grievances, overcome their hatred to stay alive. The cello’s soul is a small wooden piece that supports and gives its sound to the instrument, without soul the cello would have a dull and empty sound.. The choice of the soul is the choice of the cello rather than the bayonet, it is the choice of art rather than the barbarian, it is to reason in all the meanings of the term. In this stifling lock-up, their differences are expressed: going beyond prejudices, elevating one’s soul, accepting the other. Franz, a musician, believes that art can prevent him from becoming barbaric. They are German and hairy, they could be Palestinian and Israeli, fundamentalist and cartoonist…
Accepting each other’s differences and beliefs to be saved… A play that resonates strangely in our daily lives
