guided tour exhibition "Eugène Carrière, les Coulisses de la Création"
Eugène Carrière, Behind the Scenes of Creation
The exhibition traces the creative process of Eugène CARRIERE, from the conception to the end of a painting. The most spontaneous path between thought and gesture, drawing is the first draft, according to CARRIERE, of an authenticity claimed as the absolute value of Art.
The proposed course is based largely on eight unpublished notebooks, offered to the museum by the descendants of Eugène CARRIERE. One can easily imagine CARRIERE, notebook and pencil (sometimes charcoal) in the hand, taking on the live scenes of everyday life, childish expressions, landscapes that were once seen by the train, notes not to forget like the list of pigments and some other founding texts inspired by the present moment. Other themes are addressed such as the Belleville Theatre, the great work of Eugène CARRIERE of the collection of the Rodin Museum, which restores the atmosphere of its popular audience to the DAUMIER; the representation of the work with the posters Le Mineur and Le Fondeur designed for the Universal Exhibition of 1900; Pablo CASALS and VERLAINE, the painter’s favorite portraits; the familiar objects of the workshop: his easel, his box of colors, a palette.
