This building, whose foundations date back to the 15th century, is the guardian of many stories. Located in one of the oldest streets on the left bank of Paris, the place already hosted, in the Middle Ages, a «solidarity butcher’s shop» since meat was distributed to the needy. Rue de la Bûcherie was thus the witness of this first form of collective philanthropy.
In turn, the Faculty of Surgery of Paris, where Ambroise Paré studied, a private house, the Maison des Étudiants, where the UNEF was created or the City of Paris works council, this building has undergone many transformations.
Today he takes up the vocation of general interest that was already his in the Middle Ages and writes, with the Philanthro-Lab, a new page in his history by becoming the first place dedicated to the development of philanthropy. As an incubator, a place for coworking, meetings and training, the Philanthro-Lab supports project leaders, philanthropists and citizens to develop their projects that are not-for-profit and have a positive impact on society.
A place of life and a laboratory of experimentation and innovation in the service of the general interest, it helps associations to develop their strategy and resources and accompanies volunteers and philanthropists in structuring their generosity.
Because we are convinced that “giving makes things better” we want to democratize philanthropy and show that everyone can be a philanthropist. Financial donation, gift of time, gift of competence: we all have something to share or contribute.
Our ultimate goal: by becoming the house of philanthropy for all we want to help increase the number of French people involved in philanthropy from 15% to 30% by 2030.
