L'Auberge de l'œuf dur ou il était une fois Montmartre à la campagne... In January 1912, Julien Callé bought a house at the Brise-Brêche place in Saint-Cyr-sur-Morin to found the Auberge de l'Œuf dur et de l'amour, du commerce et du Venezuela réunis. The red-tinted walls, the doors and windows painted green, the sign placed on the facade are reminiscent of the famous Montmartre cabaret «Le lapin agile». It is indeed at the top of the Butte Montmartre that begins the history of this rural inn… For years, the delusional fantasy of Parisian artists who came to vacation in the valley of Petit Morin will cohabit with the Briard rurality. The “flagship” period of the institution was during the “Roaring Twenties”, rich in pranks and hoaxes that remained anchored in local memory.
