Claude Monet in the Harvest Loop - 1878 - 1881
From 1878 to 1881, Claude Monet lived and painted at Vétheuil, on the right bank of the Seine, in the Moisson loop near La Roche-Guyon. The painter knows this bank of the Seine well, having stayed there ten years earlier, in Bennecourt, at the invitation of Zola. At the turn of his career, as he was going through one of the most difficult periods of his life, Monet tirelessly immortalized the landscapes of Vétheuil, La Roche-Guyon and Moisson, three villages bordered by the Seine, a river so inspiring for the artist.
Through this conference, Claire Vincent-Gardie, owner of the Monet house in Vétheuil, aims to highlight a little-known part of Claude Monet’s life, a few years before his installation in Giverny.
The town halls of La Roche-Guyon, Moisson, Bonnières-sur-Seine and Bennecourt joined forces in 2022 to celebrate the Seine, their
common living heritage: they offer meetings,
animations, conferences on the 4 sites to promote access for all to biodiversity, history, culture, art and literature
specific to this territory and create a link in the valley.
