Aubenton: "A cathedral organ in a country church"
"A cathedral organ in a country church": the expression is by Jan Van Mol, a Flemish organist (Antwerp) of international reputation who now plays this instrument. The tribune organ of the church of Aubenton, with the help of the State (DRAC) and the Departmental Council of the Aisne, and the Association of Friends of the historical organ of Aubenton, has just been restored to the state it was 60 years ago. It had benefited from important works of first restoration which earned it its classification as instrumental by the Historical Monuments.
The work carried out in 2020-2021 by the organ builder Pierre-Adrien Plet and his workshop, confirmed how interesting this organ is. For a long time unknown, this organ from the Bucilly Abbey is now attributed to the Thierry family, organ builders of Louis XIV. Jan Van Mol will describe the merits of the instrument and all the adventures experienced by this little brother (... or even older brother) of the organ of Notre-Dame de Paris.
