"A cathedral organ in a country church": the expression is by Jan Van Mol, a Flemish organist (Antwerp) of international reputation who now plays this instrument. The tribune organ of the church of Aubenton, with the help of the State (DRAC) and the Departmental Council of the Aisne, and the Association of Friends of the historical organ of Aubenton, has just been restored to the state it was 60 years ago. It had benefited from important works of first restoration which earned it its classification as instrumental by the Historical Monuments.
The work carried out in 2020-2021 by the organ builder Pierre-Adrien Plet and his workshop, confirmed how interesting this organ is. For a long time unknown, this organ from the Bucilly Abbey is now attributed to the Thierry family, organ builders of Louis XIV. Jan Van Mol will describe the merits of the instrument and all the adventures experienced by this little brother (... or even older brother) of the organ of Notre-Dame de Paris.

Dominating the landscape, an unmissable landmark, the bell tower of Notre-Dame d'Aubenton Church has a very slender octagonal spire, which dates from 1784, while the original form was simply pyramidal. The church itself was built between 1044 and the first half of the 12th century and particularly suffered from the events of war, burned during the sieges of 1340 and 1521\. The most important restorations date back to 1553 and 1812, 1883 and 1984 ... then finally in 2010-2013, with a complete overhaul of the structure and roof of the spire. An impressive structure that is well worth, on a local scale, that of the "forest" of Notre-Dame de Paris. The visit will take place in small groups, with waiting at the foot of the building. The bell tower houses 4 bells that ring the hours and the half hours, the angelus at 8h, noon and 19h...
