Mosaïque d'Orphée
Rue du Bourg, 02000 Laon
This mosaic comes from a Gallo-Roman villa located in the territory of the municipality of Blanzy-lès-Fismes. Discovered during excavations carried out in 1858 and acquired by the Academic Society of Laon and its President, Edouard Fleury, in order to be deposited in the premises of the new Archaeological Museum of Laon (now House of Associations). Restored by the mosaicist Chrétin, from Paris, after several successive trips between 1858 and 1861 (cloister of the Prefecture, lower chapel of the Palace of Justice).
