Elementary, my dear land … The four elements and our environment

The Departmental Archives aims to preserve the heritage of the Nordists for future generations. This sustainability is part of the history, its highlights, as well as its adventures, but also in the environment that surrounds each of us. This is marked by the constant presence of the four elements.
We live surrounded by air, our body is composed mostly of water and we enjoy bathing in the sea or lakes, the land grows fruits and vegetables that we eat, the fire warms us in winter... To become aware of the permanence of these four elements and of the need to preserve them from our nuisances of modern men is without doubt a first step.
On the occasion of the European Heritage Days 2022, the exhibition of the Departmental Archives of the North illustrates the national theme on “Sustainable Heritage” by a selection of original documents from their public and private funds: a cross look at the four elements, their presence, their «domestication» and their consequences in the Northern department.
