The association Chercheurs d'Autres offers an exhibition on the Puu Baaka by Paul Doudou, Gaanman des Alukus based in Papaïchton. Photos by David Damoison and Jean-Marc Aspe, coordination David Crochet.
This photographic exhibition is accompanied by a sound walk by Pierre Selvini and an educational booklet written by Juliette Guaveïa and Marie Fleury.
In the spirit of interculturality that characterizes the members of the association, members of Taluen wanted to propose this exhibition to the village of Taluen.
Description of the exhibition:
The Alukus form a people settled on the banks of the Maroni river in the middle of the Amazon forest in French Guiana, they are part of the Bushi Konde Sama, or Bushinengués. Within this community, the death of a person is marked by several cultural events, which end with a Puu Baaka (or puubaaka), the lifting of mourning. This ancestral ceremony is a unifying element for all.
The two photographers offer here a cross-gaze that plunges us into the puubaaka of the gaanman (spiritual leader) Paul Doudou, one year after his death in November 2015.
This project is supported by the Ministry of Culture (a cultural summer) and Overseas (call for youth project)
