Guided tours to the American cemetery
The theme of this year’s European Heritage Days on 17 and 18 September is “sustainable heritage”. It could not be a theme more suited to the American necropolis of Thiaucourt.
Because if everything seems immutable in this place of rest, the landscaped park is a place full of life(s).
Thus, the site will actively participate in the Heritage Days this year and will open its «backstage». Guided tours will be offered at 10am and 3pm, on Saturdays and Sundays, for a duration of approximately 1h30.
For the occasion, meetings are planned with technicians and gardeners of the cemetery to understand how they must fulfill their mission of perpetual tribute to the dead of the Great War, with the standards of excellence in maintenance known to American necropolis, while adapting to new ecological challenges.
How can we sustainably preserve this heritage while respecting its environment?
Is it possible to cope with climate change or to manage unwanted herbs without using chemicals, for example?
The site team will be delighted to reveal some of its secrets, especially regarding the lawn care that make the fame of American sites, while providing explanations on the alternative methods used rigorously for over 18 years.
The cemetery will remain accessible for free visits, which will be embellished with informative panels.
