Église Sainte-Croix

In the Rongeant valley, not far from Joinville, the village of Suzannecourt is organized around its parish church Sainte-Croix. The monks of the abbey of Morimond, built this church in the twelfth century. In the fifteenth century, it was enlarged with a second nave allowing access to the chapel of the Virgin, which gave it an unusual character. The interior of the church was restored during the 19th century.
During a restoration in spring 2011, wall paintings were discovered. One can guess figurative elements (representing most certainly the 12 apostles) dating from the sixteenth century, which were added to geometric decorations painted in the Middle Ages. The whole was covered by a posterior white brush.
The pulpit to be preached would be of the eighteenth century, and it is identical to that of the church of Thonnance-lès-Joinville. This will come as no surprise considering that both parishes have had the same lord for centuries.
