«Pottery in sandstone, from Alsace and elsewhere» is the exhibition that the museum offers you since May 8, 2022. The exhibition presents the diversity of shapes, patterns and uses of these potteries.

Discover a type of pottery, emblematic of Alsatian folk art. Pottery comes from Saverne, Betschdorf or Westerwald.
You will also be presented the manufacturing technique, imported by potters of the Westerwald in the eighteenth century. It consists in the vitrification of the ceramic by the addition of salt during cooking at high temperature and ensures the unalterable sealing of the pottery and makes it suitable for the preservation of food and liquids.

The museum is housed in a Renaissance patrician residence, occupying the three levels of the house and the outbuilding.
The house, built in 1590, has a richly decorated facade. The half-timbered curule chairs, the imposing oriel and the polychrome helmeted heads indicate the high status of the patron. On the ground floor, one can admire a magnificent polychrome ceiling composed of plant motifs.
During the 18th and 19th centuries, the house was inhabited by Jewish families. There is still a miqwé (ritual bath) dating from this period.
The museum’s priceless collections bear witness to rural life in Alsace from the 18th to the 20th century. You can discover a kitchen, an Alsatian stube, a forge, a wine cellar, a cooper’s workshop and rooms dedicated to textiles, pottery and religion.
Due to the presence of a large Jewish community in Marmoutier until the beginning of the 20th century, a significant part of the museum is devoted to rural Alsatian Judaism. Objects related to everyday life
