The Fort du Cognelot is a stopping military fort built in 1874 by General Séré de Rivières, intended to hinder the advance of the invader, the main defensive position south of Langres. Completed by the Pailly battery in the Southwest, it has a triple role:
* serve as a pivot for the army coming from the citadel of Langres and forbid investment by the enemy,
* provide protection for an army retreating to the plateau,
* control the Culmont-Chalindrey rail junction and the Basel and Gray roads. With a total area of 29 ha, the fort comprises 5 ha consisting of buildings in the envelope and reduced. The trapezoid shell adapts to the contours of the spur of the plateau to better control the slopes.
It is also a bat refuge, the fauna and flora are rich in rare species (orchids)
