Cimetière Américain Meuse-Argonne
Rue du Général Pershing, 55110 Romagne-sous-Montfaucon
The cemetery is located east of the village of Romagne-sous-Montfaucon 40 kilometers northwest of Verdun. 14,246 Americans are buried there, making it the largest American cemetery of the First World War. The names of 954 disappeared are engraved on the walls of the loggias that surround the chapel.
The visitors' centre explains the major role played by the Americans and the Meuse Argonne Offensive in the Great War while inviting an immersive experience thanks to the scenography of the place.
A memorial hall is dedicated to the history of the cemetery, to the experience of soldiers buried there or who participated in the offensive. An interactive screen lets you browse through the register of the very first visitors to this American cemetery, the largest in Europe. Another room evokes the military history: the intervention of the Americans during the war, the Meuse-Argonne Offensive, the daily life of the soldiers, the equipment used on the front. A giant screen projects scenes of film
