Created in 1715, the Boncourt-sur-Meuse forge was taken over by Pierre Paillot-Frambeaux (1763-1831) in 1814 (leasehold and repurchase in 1829). The latter, a Barisian merchant, had undertaken since the Revolution to set up a foundry and forging company by buying up bankrupt factories in the Meuse.
After his death, his son, settled in Paris, undertook to transform the site of Boncourt, which hardly functions anymore, into a country residence soon renamed «Château de la Forge». Efforts were concentrated mainly on the creation of an English-style park, taking advantage of the reach and the old rubbish, with the culmination of a cast iron footbridge from the Vadonville factories.
The history of these ironworks is thus part of the development and decline of the old Meuse metallurgy between the 18th and the end of the 19th century.
