Exhibition «The 150 years of the Charles Grad School Group»
Discover a retrospective exhibition of the city’s 150 years of schools.
As you walk Quai du Docteur Pfléger, you pass the three buildings that make up the Charles Grad school group.
The municipal council of Turckheim noted as early as 1863 that the premises of the time were no longer up to the standards concerning hygienic conditions.
It was therefore decided to build a new school complex. The choice of location is proposed by Jean Baptiste Grad, Mayor of Schwinghof.
Several projects were submitted to the architect’s competition, and the Colmar architect Auguste Hartmann was selected. The structural works were completed in 1870, date engraved on the sandstone pediment also bearing the coat of arms of the City.
The complex consists of a boys' school and a girls' school separated by the asylum room (nursery school).
On the occasion of this beautiful anniversary, a period classroom will be reconstituted. The original plans of the School Group will be presented as well as other archives.
This exhibition will also be an opportunity to review old class photos taken at the Charles Grad school and Les Lilas kindergarten and found in the archives of our inhabitants.
