Walk on the plateau of Floing
Follow in the footsteps of the Battle of September 1, 1870!
The Floing Plateau was the site of intense fighting during the Battle of Sedan in 1870. On September 1 of this year, the cavalry of General Margueritte tried to break the encirclement of the Plateau d'Illy northwest of the citadel of Sedan, despite their heroic charges. This failure led to the disorderly withdrawal of French troops and the surrender of the city. Napoleon III was taken prisoner with his troops, causing the fall of the Second Empire.
A guide from the Floing Cultural and Natural Heritage Conservation Association will guide you on an exciting walk that will allow you to discover the sites of this historic battle.
The departure is scheduled at 9:00 in the parking lot of the cemetery, next to the Lavoir de la République. You will then take the direction of the Ferme des Haute and pass by the Calvaire d'Ily, the Garenne, the old Terme bar, the Margueritte cross, the monument of the Hunters of Africa, and finally the cemetery 1870 on the Rue des Braves Gens. The return is scheduled around 12:00 - 12:15.
You will mainly take paths, also, provide suitable shoes.
