Rural town of the Vosges, Lignéville has long belonged to the family of the same name, one of the oldest noble families of Lorraine. The land of Lignéville passed through the women to other houses: the Sieur de Tumejus et de Vannes, Baron de Villars, Sieur de Tantonville, Comte d'Autricourt, Seigneur d'Autreville in 1670, Marquis de Houécourt in 1720.
In 1790, Lignéville was erected as the capital of a township dependent on the Darney district. In 1801, the municipality joined the canton of Vittel, in the district of Mirecourt.
