A pleasant walk allows you to discover the important sites of the city: the keep and its medieval garden, the Tower of Arse and the Basilica of Saint Jean-Baptiste.

Follow the walk of the old Chaumont to discover the different important sites. You will enjoy, at the Tower of Arse, an exhibition of model castle. In the Basilica of Saint John the Baptist you can observe its treasures and discover the restoration project.
Finally, you head to the Sainte Marie island to meet the members of the new association «Institut du Patrimoine haut-marnais» which will restore these buildings and make it a place of preservation of the Chaumontais and Haut-Marnais heritage. You can enjoy coffee, refreshments or cupcakes to close this beautiful walk.

Built on a natural spur overlooking the Suize valley, the keep is the only remnant of the castle of the Counts of Champagne, cradle of the city. This 19 m high square tower has retained its medieval appearance with a thickness of walls ranging from 2.60 m at the base to 1.50 m at the top. The bossing of the stones in the lower part indicates a late dating: second half of the twelfth century.
Originally a defensive work built by the lord of the castle, once surmounted by a hourd, it was later used as a prison until 1886\. Inscriptions engraved on the walls remain from this period. The Museum of Art and History of the city of Chaumont is at its feet. It has been listed as a Historic Monument since 1926.
The Medieval association restores it in value by a medieval garden and soon the visit of the rooms.
