In the territory of Sartene, the richest in megaliths, the plateau of Cauria located 2 km from the sea allows to discover three major archaeological sites of Corsica- protected under the title of historical monuments - the megalithic alignments of I Stantari, those Rinaghu and the Funtanaccia dolmen, one of the most emblematic dolmens of Corsica, as pointed out by Prosper Mérimée. The alignments of Cauria are composed of menhirs, steles and statues-menhirs. Now established in a landscape organized by agricultural activities, they highlight the different phases of occupation of the site. Although at present, research does not reveal with certainty their symbolic, social, commemorative, cultural functions… their construction shows a powerful desire to mark a territory, exercised by a hierarchical society.
