Ajaccio and Nature
Following in the footsteps of Napoleon and accompanied by Philippe Perfettini, animator of the Napoleonic heritage of the city of Ajaccio, the participants will discover the emblematic site of the Place d'Austerlitz. As a child, Napoleon would have come there to shelter in a cave and meditate on his destiny, before coming back in 1799, after the Campaign of Egypt and it is in 1938 that the immense monument to his glory is inaugurated. But, the Place d'Austerlitz is also a park that has just been redeveloped, symbol of the link that exists between Ajaccio and nature, just a few meters from the Bois des Anglais, the Chemin des Crêtes, Berthault Park and listed gardens of the Territorial Collectivity of Corsica. For a long time this area of the city was an immense green space, shared between gardens, pastures and vegetable gardens, before the urban frenzy of the Glorious Thirty covered almost everything with concrete.
