Musée de la Marine de Loire
1 place Aristide-Briand, 45110 Châteauneuf-sur-Loire
- Loiret
- Centre-Val de Loire
The museum is located in the stables of the castle built at the end of the seventeenth century, by Louis Phélypeaux, marquis of La Vrillière, on the model of the Royal Stables of Versailles. The museum retraces on three levels, the history of navigation on the Loire in a modern, educational and aesthetic tour. Its rich collection mixes history, technology, sociology and art; it traces the navigation on the river, the exchanges, the work of men and the life of mariners ashore and the end of the Loire Navy. The museum also evokes the metal construction industry established in Châteauneuf since 1872, whose suspended bridges and the ferry bridge are emblematic figures.
