Prieuré de Grandmont - Fontblanche
Grandmont 18310 Genouilly
This former priory of the twelfth century belonged to the Order of Grandmont which had a great influence (150 houses in France) before its dissolution in 1787\. The priory was deserted at the beginning of the sixteenth century and became the centre of a farm, which changed its appearance but saved it from abandonment and ruin so that it was declared National Property in 1791\. It was taken over by Michel Huet, who began extensive restoration work in the 1960s, culminating in its classification as a historic monument in 1980\. One can visit the dormitory of the monks (very beautiful Romanesque windows), the capitular room, and the chapel whose vault in broken barrel is intact.
