Conference - Henri de Linarès Hall
Anne de France, la maistresse du beau mestier de vennerye by Mrs Lydwine SCORDIA
September 17 at 3pm – Upon reservation - included in the entrance fee
Anne de France, daughter of Louis XI, shared with her father a taste for hunting and animals. In the Livre de chasse, later than 1488, Jacques de Brézé celebrates Princess Anne, "the beautiful fleurye rose" and "the house of the beautiful mestier de vennerye". But what did the practice of hunting mean at the turn of the Middle Ages and modern times? This conference will be followed by a signing session of his latest book Onze énigmes de Louis XI, published in 2021 by Vendémiaire editions. Lydwine SCORDIA, Associate of History and Doctor of Medieval History, is a research professor at the University of Rouen Normandy, a specialist in political and cultural history in the late Middle Ages.
Conference - Henri de Linarès Hall
Women of Power in the Renaissance by Mme Aubrée DAVID-CHAPY
September 18 at 3pm – Upon reservation - included in the entrance fee
Through the education she passed on to many Renaissance princesses and the Teachings she wrote, Anne de France bequeathed political and diplomatic know-how to women such as Anne de Bretagne, Louise de Savoie, Marguerite d'Autriche who exercised power in Europe during the Renaissance. It is this tradition of female power that will be discussed at the conference.
This conference will be followed by a signing session of his latest book Anne de France, Gouverner au féminin à la Renaissance, published in May 2022 by Passé Composés.
Aubrée DAVID-CHAPY is an Associate in History and PhD in Modern History from Paris-Sorbonne University, a specialist in the history of women in power.

About the location

Château-Musée de Gien - Chasse, histoire et nature en Val de Loire
Place du Château 45500 Gien
  • Loiret
  • Centre-Val de Loire
Dominating the town of Gien and the Loire, the current castle was built from 1482, on the site of an old medieval fortress, at the request of Anne de Beaujeu. The latter left its mark on the city and transformed the castle into a Renaissance building with a more decorative architecture. François I, Catherine de Medici, Charles IX or Louis XIV and his court stayed there. In the 19th century, the Department bought the monument which became an administrative building before finding its vocation as a museum as it has become today.
