A well-informed collector of works of art, the Cardinal de Richelieu owned one of the most important collections of paintings and sculptures of his time in his castle in Touraine. Some of these masterpieces are presented exclusively at the Richelieu Museum. Located on the first floor of the Hôtel de Ville, the Richelieu Museum, labeled Musée de France, was inaugurated on November 25, 1961\. In 2011, the exhibition Richelieu à Richelieu, of national interest, dedicated to all the collections of the Cardinal in his castle in Touraine, was the occasion to set up a new scenography, around six major themes: the sculpted effigy, the gallery of battles, the interior decoration of the castle, the engravings of Jean Marot.
