At the edge of the canal from Nantes to Brest, the Cistercian abbey of Bon-Repos is located in a preserved area (Natura 2000).
Necropolis of the Rohan family, it was founded in 1184. After turbulent centuries, between prosperity and crisis, the abbey was abandoned to the French Revolution.
It was in 1986, under the impulse of a few locals, that the association of the Companions of the Abbey of Bon-Repos was created. Then began a vast restoration project, which allowed the impressive renovation of the cloister and part of the 18th century abbey.
Anchored in its territory, the association offers a rich cultural program, resonating with the place, and accessible to as many people as possible: creative residencies, exhibitions, events, etc.
During your visit, you will have access to the exhibition "In the footsteps of Alice, the sequel" by Dominique Richard and the installation [.Beyond.. ] by Cédric Verdure.

The abbey of Good Rest was based(established) in 1184 by Allain, viscount of Rohan, which installed(settled) cisterciens monks there. Ruins date the 13th and 14th centuries. Dependences(Outbuildings) and vestiges surrounding the abbey go back up(raise) to the 14th and 18th centuries. Of the old(former) abbey remain(subsist) only a pillar of the church and walls of the monastic buildings(ships), the rest having been destroyed after the sale of the abbey as very national in 1791, materials having been reused in reconstructions surroundings. The pillar belongs to the 13th century, but in the 18th century capitals(big tops) with foliages of small columns were replaced with doric capitals(big tops). A confession of 1686 shows that the convent consisted of a square cloister surrounded with buildings(ships), of which the chapel. In the 18th century, only the chapel of the 13th century was kept(preserved) during reconstruction, the rest was replaced with new buildings(ships).
