The building dedicated to St John the Evangelist is in fact the only witness of a priory ensemble of the canons of St Augustine, now disappeared. Its construction dates from the 12th and 13th centuries.
It presents a cross plan with a nave of 4 bays vaulted in a broken cradle, a projecting transept and a choir of 2 bays vaulted in a barrel, and is flanked by 2 chapels: North (dedicated to St John the Evangelist and South (dedicated to the Virgin and the child). The sacristy is located in the extension of the southern chapel, leaning against the choir whose entrance is through a small airlock.
Among the remains testifying to its past importance, we note a remarkable set of thirty wooden stalls of the 14th century on 4 rows decorated and sculpted with scenes of Gospel, grotesques, animals and funny characters. These stalls, remarkable testimony on canonical life, are due to an anonymous artist who made them around 1350, which makes them the oldest of Burgundy today preserved.
The church also houses a statue of St John the Evangelist of the 16th century and at the entrance the lying of St John of Brazey, knight, died in 1305.
The church which became a parish church was classified as a historical monument on 10/12/1907.
