The castle of Saint-Amand-en-Puisaye is one of the most important castles of the Renaissance in the Nivernais. It was rebuilt between 1530 and 1540 by Antoine de Rochechouart, son of a chamberlain of King François I, on the site of a feudal fortress probably destroyed by the Duke of Burgundy when this one, in 1402, invaded the Auxerrois. The castle has since belonged to the Mancini family, Duke of Nevers. It was once owned by Count Nils de Barck, a Swedish aristocrat, sculptor and ceramist, and Jules Guiraud, governor of the Banque de France. The castle now houses a museum dedicated to ceramics, an activity that makes the city and its surroundings famous.
Registered in 1986, it was then classified by order of 28 November 1991.
