From 1949 to March 10, 1967, France was part of NATO. Integrated into the Atlantic Alliance Air Defence, the Territorial Air Defence (DAT) will indirectly benefit from US assistance.
Between 1953 and 1958, the DAT built many radar stations, including one on the Salbert hill (in the former cave shelter of the Salbert fort). Its name is DAT Work "G", or SMR (Master Radar Station) 60/921.
The "G" is composed, at its creation, of the Fort du Salbert, several Fillod barracks used to house the staff, as well as the underground premises on three levels.
