L'Arche à Clermont Ferrand

The historic building of the Monanges school group, well known to the Clermont-Ferrand community, is located at the intersection of rue de Metz and rue d'Alsace in the Clermont-Ferrand train station district. Built at the end of the 19th century by the religious congregation of the Sisters of Mercy, the building houses a college and a private teaching high school until 2014. This very harmonious construction is characteristic of Clermont architecture, with the use of volcanic rock. It consists of a building in the shape of "H" and a church, built on a plot of more than 3000m2. The frame of the openings and edges of the building is treated with Volvic lava, and the facades are covered with lime to lighten and rhyme the whole. The roof is slate with many attics. In order to give new life to this place, a complete rehabilitation is being implemented; an ambitious restoration project that will allow to host by the end of 2023, two shared habitats of L'Arche in Clermont-Ferrand for adults with mental disabilities.
