The Hotel de Lesdiguières, listed as a historical monument, is not only a building between courtyard and garden, but a 1.3 hectare property, in the center of Grenoble life since the Middle Ages. The site includes in the 13th century, the delphinal palace, seat of the principality of Dauphiné, including the prince-dauphin and co-seigneur of Grenoble, leaning against the church of Saint-André, and the tower of the Treasury built on the Gallo-Roman rampart. François Duc de Lesdiguières, governor of the Dauphiné, made it his town residence from 1602, and added a wing facing a garden called «Pré de la Trésorerie». His descendants, the Créqui, set up salons with Louis XV woodwork and parquet floors from the Hache cabinetmakers (classified as historical monuments). They enlarged the palace again to the Place de Gordes. In 1719, the municipality of Grenoble acquired the complex to house the town hall.
