The Chartreuse of Mélan is the inescapable(major) site of the valley of Giffre. Based(Established) in 1285 by Béatrix de Faucigny, the Chartreuse knew 500 years of monastic life up to French Revolution, 100 years of middle school(college) and 50 years of departmental orphanage. On about three hectares around the Chartreuse, ten sculptures of contemporary art create a dialogue between current art and this exceptional site: works of Lilian Bourgeat, Slimane Raïs, Régine Raphoz, Alain Sagaert, Brigitte Baud-Perrier, René Broissand, Fernand Terrier, Godefroy Kouassy.
