The Duke of Polignac prides himself - rightly - on owning the first castle of the Loire. And what a castle! Forget Blois and Chambord. Here, about fifteen kilometers north of Le Puy, the Loire is still a stream of impetuous water, and the meander - the «vault» - that encloses the Polignac residence on its spur is almost perfect.
