The stonemasons came from the borders of Lake Maggiore in Italy, following the fire of Sallanches in 1840 and Cluses in 1844, at the request of Charles Albert, King of Sardinia, Prince of Piedmont and Duke of Savoy.
After the reconstruction of these two cities, some stonemasons settled in the region (Domancy, Combloux), they will be the first master carriers.
Between the two World Wars, a hundred will work in quarries.
With the arrival of new materials, cement and tourism, graniteurs are going to convert into less difficult jobs.
