On the heights of the village, the priory has dominated Meillerie for 800 years! Come and discover freely its old tower of defense, its church and its home which welcomed regular canons of the Congregation of Grand St-Bernard.
EXHIBITION In the heart of the 13th century Priory, an old room restored by a handful of passionate volunteers, is called «Logis du Prieuré». It houses an exhibition with various archives on this historical monument, on the history of the village, its quarries, its boats and the famous writers who have described the peculiarities of this village.

Founded around 1130, the fortified priory of Meillerie is rebuilt around 1220 by the canons of Meillerie following the gift by the Count of Savoy and the Sire of Faucigny of all their rights of justice on Meillerie and Lugrin. Meillerie then became a seigneurial but also religious and administrative centre of the provost court of Mont-Joux, until the beginning of the 15th century. At the beginning of the 18th century, the buildings were largely ruined and restored. In 1752, the priory was secularized. In the 19th century, the priory was transformed into a parish church and a presbytery. It was partially listed as a historic monument in 1990\. This protection was extended in 2015.
