From the listed Romanesque bell tower to the neo-Romanesque church and its furniture inscribed as historical monuments
Invitation to the discovery of the listed neo-Romanesque church (2019) of Gueberschwihr and particularly furniture and art objects (2021), in resonance with the beautiful listed Romanesque bell tower (1841).
• From ancient relics to a concentration of religious art and crafts from the late 19th to the Great War
It is an unprecedented choice of movable objects and works of religious heritage that have just been inscribed under the title of Historical Monuments in this year 2021 that will be presented to you, supporting documents (origin, author, donor)... through an exhibition on the one hand, and a guided tour of the church with its home decor on the other hand, under the sign of great harmony.
Whether they come from Alsace, the Vosges, Lorraine, the Jura, Austria, Bavaria, Switzerland or Paris, the decor and the furniture, in large coherence with the steeple-vestige (“the most beautiful of the vineyard” according to art historians) of the original “novel” monument - and the new church «in the Romanesque style» tell their story, that members of the ADESP (Association des Amis de l'église Saint-Pantaléon) propose you to discover.
Their creators were called Baudrand, Brutschi, Feuerstein, Klem, Mayer, Vogl, Weyh, Kusian, Poussielgue-Rusand...
But will not be forgotten the contemporary sarcophagus of the Romanesque church that disappeared after the disastrous enlargement work of 1835, or the statue of St.Pantaléon in carved lime wood from the beginning of the sixteenth century...
Upon completion of the ongoing restoration work of the vaulted room of the Gueberschwihr bell tower, subject of a campaign of subscription to the Foundation of the Heritage Alsace, This rare space will be dedicated to the permanent presentation of vestiges representative of the history of an important commune and parish from the High Middle Ages.
