About the location

Hôtel de Rouÿn
10 rue du général Audéoud, 55300 Saint-Mihiel
  • Meuse
  • Grand Est
Built around 1650, this mansion, in the heart of the city, serves as a dwelling for Monsieur de Rouÿn, from the end of the seventeenth century, then his descendants (General René Audeoud and the family of Chassey until today). Witness to the prosperity of the city of Saint-Mihiel at that time, the building adopted a U-shaped layout, with an interior courtyard paved with river pebbles. Three bodies of buildings surround the main courtyard, closed by a monumental gate. The entrance porch is surmounted by a shell, symbolizing purity, surrounded by four spheres representing the universality of knowledge. This is a typical example of a 17th century Lorraine mansion. The magnificent garden, fruit of the work of a whole life, has a beautiful variety of plant species maintained with love and care by Monsieur de Chassey. Blooming in turn, the flowers thus preserve an intimate character that perfectly suits the elegance of the place.
The estate has been listed as a Historical Monument since 1995
