The so-called «water mills», known to the Romans before the Christian era, began to be used in France from the 6th century. The idea was to transform the energy produced by water (running or falling) into mechanical energy by means of a hydraulic wheel which then acted as a real motor (the only one which would be in use until the invention of the steam engine). A transmission system will operate grinding wheels, which will grind the flour out of the grain. This milling process will spread wherever the river system allows. Many will be provided with it, some «banana» mills of a seigneury obliging even inhabitants to grind their wheat there for a royalty.
In recent years, this old mill has been transformed into rooms and tables d'hôtes. The garden of the mill is a refuge LPO (League for the Protection of Birds).
