The fort of Queuleu is bound(connected) to the defence of the city of Metz. He(It) takes part in fights of 1870. His(Her,Its) arrangements(developments) are pursued by the Germans until 1899. In 1940-1941, the fort is used by the Nazis in detention centre for prisoners of war, then in 1943-1944 in kommando of the concentration camp of Natzweiler-Struthof.
In 1944, the fort makes the object of fights opposing German defence to the American army. The Centre of Watched Stay established from 1946 till 1946 serves as place of detention to the settled(fixed) people for motives for collaboration and to the foreigners, in particular German. In 1946-1947, the fort is transformed into camp of German war prisoners before serving to the Indochinese workers in 1948-1950.
The departmental monument of resistance and of deportation was inaugurated in 1977.

The Fort of Queuleu belongs to the first belt strengthened by Metz. Building work, begun by the French people during the Second Empire between 1867 and 1868, was resumed(taken back) to a great extent by the Germans during Annexation. Between October, 1943 and August, 1944, a special camp managed by Gestapo is installed(settled) in the Caserne II, Blockhouse A. The camp sees the internment of Resistance fighters, saboteurs, boatmen, objectors and hostages. The conditions of internment are terrible: prisoners are questioned under torture and parked eyes bandaged with bound(connected) feet and hands. Thirty-six people will succumb to it and four people will manage to get away. Between 1500 in 1800 prisoners will be committed there before being sent to concentration camps, to prison or sentenced to death. In the Libération, a centre of watched stay is established there between December, 1944 and March, 1946\.
