“Said house and castle of Kerjean is so beautiful and magnificent structure that it would be worthy of our collection and stay if our business called us” Louis XIII. A castle RenaissanceVers 1570, in full "Golden age" of Brittany, the lords of Kerjean begin a gigantic construction site. Instead of the old manor, they build a castle surpassing the most beautiful residences in the region. Today, Kerjean rises in the heart of a vast natural area of 20 hectares, with free access all year round. Past the powerful ramparts of Kerjean and then the portal of honor, the visitor discovers the astonishing blind facade of the house, which says a lot about the wars and vicissitudes crossed over the centuries.by browsing the 25 rooms open to the visit, we discover the history of the castle thanks to surprising multimedia (see below). Built to impress and showcase the power of this rich family on the rise of society, Kerjean Castle is inspired by the so-called “French” models while adapting to the regional style. The result is a jewel of Renaissance architecture with its refined decorations, its portal of honor with terrace on arcades and its elegant well delicately laid in the courtyard. Kerjean Castle also met an urgent need for protection at the time of the troubles linked to the wars of the League. It is therefore surrounded by an exceptional fortified enclosure of more than 10 meters thick, lined with deep ditches. With its park of 20 hectares, this complex has multiple facets always to be rediscovered during animations, visits or walks.
