Around 1630, the president in the parliament of Paris, René de Longueil, commissioned François Mansart to build a castle at Maisons-sur-Seine. The castle is inaugurated in 1651, in the presence of Louis XIV and the regent Anne of Austria. In 1777, the Count of Artois acquires the estate. In 1804, Marshal Lannes, Duke of Montebello bought the castle and the park and had them redeveloped. In 1818, the banker Jacques Lafitte bought the estate, subdivided the large park and demolished the stables. After several successive owners during the second half of the 19th century, the State bought the castle in 1905.
