Somewhere between a timeless fable and a snapshot of everyday life, Anna Sommer's collages combine humour with unease, tenderness with cruelty, and introduce a fantastic distance into what is most familiar to us.
A young girl caresses a tiger asleep at her feet, another grows carnivorous plants, friends play badminton among porcelain vases, couples melt into each other to better confront each other... At the height of her graphic art, Anna Sommer uses wallpaper motifs in contrast to her own to present us with intimate scenes, motionless yet vibrant with inner tension. Nothing moves, and yet - everything is in motion: behind the smooth features of the characters and their seemingly innocent attitudes, dramas are played out, strategies are woven, fantasies come to light. Animals become more human than humans, and objects take on a life of their own: who is manipulating whom in this teeming universe, where every detail is brimming with secret malice? Subtle eroticism too, with a hint of sadism...
This meeting will be followed by a book signing in the bookshop on the 2nd floor of Le Commun.
