Avenue du Château, 61100 Flers, France
The origin of Flers Castle dates back to the Middle Ages. It was then a modest construction in stone and half-timbering. The castle today consists of two wings arranged at an angle. The oldest, built in the 16th century under the impulse of Nicolas III de Grosparmy, is characterized by its bell roofs crowned with lanternons. The facade, classically designed with its monumental steps, was erected in the 18th century by Ange-Hyacinthe de la Motte-Ango. Property of the counts of Flers until the Revolution, the park and the castle of Flers are then acquired by the count of Redern then by the family Schnetz. In 1901, Julien Salles, mayor of Flers, bought the estate on behalf of the municipality. The castle then housed the Town Hall and the museum. The castle was classified as a historical monument in 1907\. It underwent major works between 2012 and 2016.
